Computer Base Unit Recycling:

Adhering to the principles of the Waste Hierarchy, we’ll try and re-use as many baseunits as possible. However, we realise that the majority of PCs are obsolete or beyond re-use and in such instances, recover all materials contained in the base unit, including:

  • Plastics
  • Copper
  • Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Circuit Boards

Our recycling processes operate in accordance with BATRRT (Best Available Treatment Recycling and Recovery, as issued by DEFRA). This includes the recovery of circuit boards (PCBs) greater than 10 cm in size. We recover all materials in-house at our waste management facility. So as to adhere to the requirements of the Basel Convention, Pink-Wales ensures that all materials are sent to “audited facilities” where they are subjected to final treatment inside the UK before re-entering manufacturing markets.

Laptop Recycling:

Our recycling solutions for laptops adhere to similar principles as those for desktop computers. However, the constituent components of laptops mean that they need to be treated as Hazardous Waste. As such, we segregate out the screens, removing the fluorescent tubes (backlights) which may contain mercury, the batteries that contain Cadmium, Nickel. Lithium and Zinc. All hazardous materials are reprocessed to remove the hazardous compounds before being further treated for re-use in manufacturing.
